The screening was held at the Asia Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati last Friday, December 4, 2009. Basically, it was an open documentary about using Information Technology to elicit change in societies; showing real-life cases of such movements around the world. It shows how technology can bind with activism and advocacy and help change the world through these acts.
What is interesting is the diversity on how such cases can be applied, from grassroots efforts, to government watchdogs to bastions of basic human rights to war efforts. It is applicable to societies, rich or poor, there will always be an application to these.
As my friend said after, this film is a must-watch in the UP community, where activism tactics have seemed to be getting old and the government is always a step ahead of us. I believe that with the help of technology, we don’t need to wait for the big mass media institutions to be the catalysts of change. Just like the Twitter and YouTube postings during Ondoy we can harness IT to make our country a better one.
