UnPLUG Team at IBM DevNight
Last night’s IBM Developer’s Night was a mix-match of good and frustrating at the same time. It was pretty clear what IBM wanted us to do there, and it was also a good opportunity for them to showcase something that of course most of the crowd (they think) would benefit from: their new Innovation Center. The concept was sound.
Of course, most of the students that were there came for the food (after all food is an essential factor in any event). So it was a bit disappointing when the catering services they hired seemed to be overwhelmed by the sheer number of students invading the buffet table.
During the show-and-tell portion, our simple delegation managed to merely pull something off, and it turned out that we won a token for having the best presentation (I still think part of it was because we used the word powered by an IBM server). Joke aside, I think our concept was plain simple and straight to the point. Oh, and boring stuff aside, it was much better than plugging in our org’s events.
Some other random stuff I was thinking of during the event:
- How much money did they spend for this event? (considering how many people will actually participate directly on it)
- I saw many students sporting DSLR’s. Its a sad thing that really few of them know how to use it (have these kids even heard of the term “aperture ring?”)
- Does everybody really use Facebook nowadays? I’m still asking myself if I’ll join the bandwagon or wait till the next best thing that comes in the internet (or is this the next best thing for years to come?)
